Computers for Beginners - Buying a Computer

So, you're planning to buy a new computer but don't know what to buy? Most computers comes in a package (a whole set composing of monitor, system unit, mouse, keyboard, etc.), some popular brands are HP and Dell, and of course you will be shocked by the price of those.

But your budget is really tight and you know almost nothing about computers? Don't worry, Chowder is here to help:)

Computers for Beginners - Buying a Computer
  • Processor - most of the processors nowadays are multi core and power efficient. You didn't really need those high-end, super hi-tech processors. Just look for a multi core processor with high clockspeed (2.0GhZ - 2.5GhZ is enough). The cheapest but most efficient brand nowadays is Core 2 Duo.
  • Memory - Get a minimum of 2GB. You dont need those memory sticks (RAM) with heatsinks or whatsoever, a very simple memory stick will do. Dont buy DDR, they are outdated. The cheapest but most efficient is DDR2-800 (this is a type of memory stick not a brand).
  • Hard disks - they are very cheap nowadays, get at-least 320Gb.
  • Motherboard - Your local computer shop will help you on this one because the motherboard depends on what kind of hardware you choose from above.
  • GPU or Graphics Card - If you're not into gaming, you dont have to buy one, the "built-in" Graphic Processor on motherboard will be enough. But if you're a gamer, buy the cheapest but most efficient: Nvidia 8800 GT.
  • Casing - Anything will do
  • Power Supply - Dont buy the cheapest, but you also didnt need the expensive ones, mid-range PSU (power supply unit) is enough
  • Monitor - Any will do,.
And that's it, other hardware are keyboard and mouse. And base on above and on your budget, you now have a guide on buying a computer. If you have any question, just post your comment below.
